Mountain Biking to Fitness
For the last few months I was thinking of buying a mountain bike for my exercise. Given my work schedule and almost non-existent amount of free time I have, it seems impossible for me to utilize such a machine.
A week ago on the 18th of November my manager just blurted out—“You need to exercise”. Whoaah! Was I fat already having to sit all day staring at the monitor and allow all my calorie intake turn into fats?
That stinging and ear reverberating remark clinched my decision. The next day I went to every store looking for a bike of my preference, finance healthy and above all have a sense of relationship which I could call my buddy similar to a puppy walking with you in the morning, giving you a good fat burning exercise. Walking? Does it really burn? Hmmm. Never mind…
Now to the bike itself; it took me two days to find the bike I wanted—a blazing red macho bike that fit my personality. I wish I had a camera to show how the bike looked like (I am scheduled to buy a digital camera actually). On November 20, I paid for the bike and told the sales lady I was getting it the following day when I have a car to bring it home.
Unfortunately, work came in the way and it took me until the 25th of November to bring it home.
Nevertheless, It was so cool to have a bike again. I grew up riding a bmx bike almost everyday of my life going to places starting in the morning until late at night. It had been nine years since I last rode a bike and it definitely felt good. Just like old days.
Looking at the bike and remembering my relationships with bikes I would love to ride the bike to office, a 16 kilometer one way trip, on weekend overtimes but not until I have lost a few pounds and have regained the stamina for such physical activity.
Oh boy, am I so excited and my inner instinct tells me—“wait until my manager sees me a couple of months from now”—as I am mentally preparing myself to begin a crazy like physical workout to get me cut to perfection.
